Introductory Picture Of Marine Mammals






Cetology is a branch of zoology that deals with the study of marine mammals that include whales, dolphins, porpoise, etc.

Cetology (from Greek κῆτος, kētos, "whale"; and -λογία, -logia) or whalelore (also known as whaleology) is the branch of marine mammal science that studies the approximately eighty species of whales, dolphins, and porpoise in the scientific order Cetacea.

Marine Mammals:

                            There are 130 species of Mammals currently depend on ocean for all of their life needs. These species are described in 3 mammalian orders.

1.    Sub Order Pinnipedia: Seals, Fur Seals, Sea lions, Walruses.

2.    Sub Order Marine Fissipedia: Sea Otters, Marine Otters, and polar bear.

                              Whales, Dolphins, and porpoises.

1.    Sub Order Mysticeti: Baleen Whales.
