Some Interesting Facts About Sub Antarctic Fur Seal:

  •        Swimming

Sub Antarctic fur seals can swim up to 1,500 km in search of food. 

  •       Activity

They are active during the day in warmer temperatures and at night in cooler temperatures. 

  •       Diet

They hunt in shallow waters at night for myctophid fish, squid, crustaceans, and sometimes rock hopper penguins and other seabirds.

  •  Reproduction

They are polygynous, with males defending territories of 6–20 females. Pups weigh 4–6 kg at birth and are nursed for 11 months. 

  •        Hunting

In the 18th century, sub Antarctic fur seals were hunted for their pelts, but this is now illegal.

They are preyed upon by sharks and killer whales.

They control the populations of fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans.
